All it takes to become a great leader…

Not long ago I was having a call with a prospective client.  They had expressed admiration that I was putting myself out there, showing up as a leader.  I sensed my response was surprising, and simpler than they had anticipated.  But it was important, and I think it’s something that more people should hear.

I said, all it takes is deciding to show up as one.

And I think that’s true.  But upon further reflection it’s incomplete.

I think it needs to be combined with discerning your strengths and pursuing a goal or field for which you are well-suited and passionate.  I think it is a truth of the human species that, in the words of personality type pioneers Myers and Briggs, we have “gifts differing”.  Minds work differently.  Aptitudes vary, as do interests.  It takes all kinds, and we are all called to diverse pursuits.  And that takes diving into the Realm of Purpose.

So, start with that.  Make sure to know thyself, and pursue the correct calling.

And then, make the choice to show up as a leader.

It’s simple.  Not easy but simple.  And it is always a battle with your vulnerabilities, insecurities, and fears.  Expect that so it doesn’t catch you off guard.

And then make the decision to show up as a leader.

Here’s what that means…

🫵 You figure out what you care about.  Because no one else has your passion or perspective.

🫵 You find your inner vision.  Because no one else can or should give that to you.

🫵 You listen to your intuition.  Because you need to take your guidance from the highest, deepest source.

🫵 You forge the path.  Because leaders go where no one else has seen.

🫵 You get out of your comfort zone.  Because that’s where all the growth happens.

🫵 You own it.  Because the buck has to stop somewhere.

🫵 You show up.  Because you can’t do it alone and you need to win people to your cause.

That’s pretty much it.

Every day.

Simple, not easy.

And totally worth it, because it’s what you’re here to be.
