DON'T LET OLD THINKING HOLD YOU BACK
Something I’ve realized lately…we need to reframe three very important concepts that we regard as separate. I’ve come to see they’re actually 3 sides of the same coin (I know coins don’t have 3 sides, but just roll with me here!), distinctions without a difference.
Sure, I know they have different definitions that are often helpful to consider, but I think it’s time to start operating from a mental model that combines them into one basic operating paradigm, and in this way our collective humanity will uplevel ⬆️ This is especially important in today’s global economy which blurs and even erases so many of our traditional boundaries.
The 3 previously distinct concepts are…
1️⃣ LEADERSHIP
2️⃣ CREATIVITY
3️⃣ ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Yes, I am aware of the standard definitions of these and I understand why they exist.
But here’s what I notice. Ultimately I can’t define any of these without pulling heavily from the other two, and this is more and more true each day.
LEADERSHIP is always an act of creation, isn’t it? And the best leaders have irrepressible, enterprising spirits. A well-run department practically becomes its own entity.
CREATIVITY requires entrepreneurial resourcefulness - all the greatest artists in history have demonstrated this in some way. And creators inevitably become leaders, forging undiscovered paths. We call truly inspiring creators leaders in their fields.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP is perpetual creation and leadership. I honestly can’t make out the distinctions there, even if I squint really hard! All entrepreneurs need to master both the creative process AND leadership to succeed.
Often when I work with entrepreneurial clients they realize just how creative they are. And when I work with leaders they TRULY become creators, because I don't know why else a leader would be leading.
In the approaching world, so full of abundance and interconnection, we cannot afford to draw these distinctions any longer. Doing so will constantly limit our vision and keep crucial parts of ourselves from communicating with others. In this age of interconnectivity, the most important connections are those we make within our own minds, souls, and spirits.
Imagine the world in which all of us shed these boundaries and truly liberate our visionary potential. Each of us proceeding with confidence as entrepreneurs, creators, leaders in our own right, vibrant with intentional life purpose, perpetually animated by vision. Is this not the utopian world we all crave?
This is the era to do it - rich with the self-awareness of healing and possibility. Human history has thus aligned. Start with yourself and go make it happen.
