People who find that equilibrium often come to a crisis of personal meaning - there is actually great subconscious fulfillment in the chase and even frustrations involved in making the money work, and we don’t tend to realize it.  So, when you catch it, that fulfillment leaves and then you REALLY need to figure out your life.  At that point it’s a question of existence and a deep grappling with the human condition, which is a great challenge for those who face it head on.

And it’s where the REAL ROI is found.  Ultimately we simply can’t quantify the ROI of what truly matters.  A major criticism I have of the entrepreneurial culture in which we live is that it implicitly denies this crucial truth, and as a result our lives often feel anxious and colorless.

You know what they say about fear, right? It’s the only thing to fear. Remember that.

So, Dear Leader, it’s really your choice how big (or small) you want to play these days. If you WANT you can sit on your couch collecting food stamps. You can be the leader of that vision. Or, you can take the leap and start an international mega-corporation. All depends on what you want. If you’re reading this I’m pretty sure it’s not the former. Perhaps not the latter either, but somewhere in between is your sweet spot and it could look like all kinds of different things. There are no wrong visions. It doesn’t even have to be a business. It could simply be greater influence or increased social favor of some kind.

So, are you being honest about that?

Or are you letting all that stuff get in the way?

I’ve been talking to people who are investing their way out of their careers, retiring, building something new, or simply looking to make a shift.  They are all plagued by some kind of fear or uncertainty about what their lives look like on the other side.  What is their purpose?  And how do we make peace with our imperfect inheritance to free our souls, forgive our well-intentioned elders, truly break from the trauma of the past, and see where we want to go with our freedom?

As a coach I work in what I call the “Realm of Purpose”.  It’s the highest human mindset, and it is a place to COMPLETELY deconstruct all of our social behaviors.  And I do mean COMPLETELY.  It’s why people are able to be so vulnerable there.  We see the human condition for what it is.  NOTHING is sacred there, and that makes EVERYTHING sacred.  The only sanctity is sanctity itself.  All else is up for discussion.
